Eminent Educationist – Dr. Punam Suri

The very essence of every human existence is to imbibe the good and discard the evil. This philosophy was what formed the foundation of the ethos and values of DAV. Dr. Punam Suri, The Chancellor of DAV University and President, DAV College Management Committee, is a person with a mission to contribute to society through the pursuit of education.

Dr. Punam Suri has always believed in the Arya Samaj and their principles of social reforms. His grandfather Mahatma Anand Swami was an eminent writer and Gandhian. So, right from childhood, he received a broad-based education which helped him to think differently. To bring about a change in society, the Arya Yuva Samaj was launched which effectively worked towards the eradication of social evils like the dowry system, female infanticide, corruption to name a few.

Dr. Poonam Suri is also considered as one of the pioneers of the DAV University, which is one of the largest non- governmental educational institutions in India. Dr. Suri is a firm believer in the ideals of Swami Dayanand Saraswati which helped him to new initiatives in the field of education. Many new and innovative methods have been incorporated under the leadership of Dr. Punam Suri.

Dr. Punam Suri is a multi-faceted personality. He is a well-known journalist who is the Managing Director of  ‘The Daily Milap’ the largest Urdu Daily of India.He has also given leadership to various projects at a national level like Charitra Nirman Shivirs, Community Marriages, and even the Project Boond to save water.

Awards and Accolades

Dr. Suri has been the recipient of various awards. He also holds the coveted offices of President Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Sabha, President Arya Yuvak Samaj, patron Arya Samaj Vasant Vihar, President Arya Samaj (Anarkali) Mandir Marg, Founder President Indian Modellers Educational Society.

He was honored with the prestigious award of ‘Arya Rattan’.  The Vice – President of India has nominated to the Senate of Punjab University in recognition of his service to the field of education. The Indian Postal System in association with the Ministry of Communication and the Indian Government in 2016 released Postal Stamps from Jalandhar bearing the magnificent picture of Dr. Suri.

 2017 he received the most prestigious award in the country, The Padma Shri. Dr. Punam Suri was awarded the Padma Shri for distinguished service in literature and education.
